Sweden’s first designed power line pole

In Brattland, just outside Åre in Sweden, a new landmark rises in the landscape - Sweden’s first designed power line pole. Created by artist Anna Cronheden for Svenska Kraftnät, the 32-metre structure is both a functional element of infrastructure and a sculptural interpretation of the relationship between people, nature, and technology.

A landmark of light and collaboration

The lighting design by Light Bureau has one clear purpose: to strengthen Anna Cronheden’s vision — “Asymmetrisk tvåsamhet – tillsammans följs vi åt i relation människa–natur” (Asymmetric Togetherness – together we move in the relationship between human and nature).

Developed in close collaboration between Anna Cronheden, Kai Piippo, and Fredrik Winqvist from Light Bureau, the lighting is designed to express connection and mutuality. Subtle, programmable transitions allow the pole to shift in tone with the seasons – creating an experience that changes with time, weather, and light.

Through its rhythm and variation, the lighting enhances the sculpture’s organic form and highlights its duality: a technical structure rooted in the natural landscape, illuminated as part of the living environment. The result is a symbol of coexistence – a work that reminds us how we relate to nature, to one another, and to life itself.
