Lilleakerbyen, L2.

A new vibrant district in Oslo ties the two suburban parts of the city.

Lilleakerbyen is a major redevelopment of the urban area of Lilleaker involving the development of 2300 apartments, hospitality offerings, hotels, cultural destinations and offices. Light Bureau has developed a lighting masterplan for the area together with ALAB and LPO architects.

L2 is one of the first areas to be redeveloped in line with the new masterplan. The development takes a sensitive approach to heritage structures and includes them within the new residential areas. Visual comfort has been a key criteria for the lighting design which incorporates state of the art lighting controls within historic lanterns and contemporary path lighting luminaires.

A custom shade was developed for the street lights which will be rolled out across the wider development area in the coming years. Lighting within the entrances of the residential units seek to blur the boundary between inside and outside space and optimize legibility.

To strengthen and unite the new and the old, we have redesignet the Twilight luminaire from iGuzzini, which has been named “Lilleaker”. This way the illuminated objects will be in focus, while the shape and color of the top-post will guide people as night falls with its faint and glowing light around the edge. During the day, the luminaire appear as a timeless and modern version of the street lamps of earlier times.
